B of A investment manager names new sales chief

Ex-Robeco exec to head asset manager's intermediary and institutional sales. Boston-based Columbia Management, part of Bank of America's wealth- and asset-management business, has hired former Robeco Group executive Michael Jones to run distribution to intermediary and institutional channels.

Jones will start at Columbia in the middle of November.

Two-speed

"Mike is a highly experienced professional who will excel at leading our institutional and intermediary teams," says Columbia president Keith Banks. "He has the demonstrated sales expertise, technical knowledge and leadership ability to lead these combined functions."

Jones was co-president and senior managing director of Robeco Investment Management, Rotterdam, Netherlands-based Robeco's U.S. operations and the holding company for Boston Partners, Sage Capital Management, and Weiss Peck & Greer .

The institutional and intermediary sales teams Jones is slated to manage will operate independently from each other, just as they do now, says Columbia.

Columbia provides investment management services and products to institutional and private investors. It managed $517 billion at the end of September 2006. -FWR
